TRAINING OF ASEAN GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS
TO IMPROVE CONTROL OF HIGHLY PATHOGENIC AVIAN INFLUENZA
Laboratory Workshop
As part of the DG Sanco project ‘Training of ASEAN government officials to improve control of Higly Pathogenic Avian Influenza’ (DG Sanco/F&FTraining/2005/SI2-423147) a three-day laboratory workshop will be organised by the Animal Sciences Group (ASG) and the Central Institute for Animal Disease Control (CIDC-Lelystad) for 20 participants from ASEAN countries. The topics of the workshop are state of the art virological and serological methods of diagnosis and other suitable techniques, which of an appropriate level of sophistication so that participants are in a position to apply the techniques in their home countries. Candidates must come from an ASEAN country, be experienced in basic laboratory diagnosis of avian influenza, and be able to communicate in English. Therefore, a short CV and motivation letter is requested containing subjects of laboratory diagnosis of AI that the candidate would like to see in the programme during the workshop. It is the aim to have a representation of candidates from different ASEAN countries, in particular Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand in the course. Upon application, candidates will be evaluated against these criteria.

Biosafety procedures prescribe that visitors of the High Containment Labs of the CIDC must sign the quarantine statements, stating that they will abstain to come into contact with FMDV-susceptible animals such as cattle and swine, and in addition will not be in contact with poultry for 72 hours after the last visit in the labs. This will mean that the quarantine protocol will last until Friday June 2nd at 17 hours.
