The Waiboerhoeve experimental farm for dairy farming is located in Lelystad. The dairy farm has about 500 milking cows, which are used for high quality research. There are 3 barns: in the Cow LoungeTM, 240 animals are milked with four Lely milking robots. The ‘arena barn’, where the nutrition research takes place, houses 200 animals that are milked in a 2 x 5 open tandem milking parlour or the fifth milking robot. The third barn is the 'transition barn', which houses approximately 50 animals during 3 weeks before calving and 2 weeks after calving; in this barn, the animals have access to a roomy, straw-bedded stall.
