The Waiboerhoeve is a large-scale dairy farm where the latest technologies and systems for dairy farming are tested in practice. It is one of the few dairy farms in the Netherlands which has very advanced research facilities. It is a unique experimental farm in the Netherlands!
The main farm building at the Waiboerhoeve is 116 m long and 46 m wide. The front half of the barn has been set up as a 'Cow Lounge' (serrestal). This part of the building has four grid-floor systems, some of which have a rubber top layer. In the 'Cow Lounge', four Lely milking robots are used to milk approximately half of the 500 cows.
The other half of the barn has an insulated saddle roof. It contains 64 fodder feeders with automatic weighing apparatus for animal nutrition research. For experimental reasons, a 10-stand automatic open tandem milking parlour is used.
In addition, a straw-bedded pen is available for approximately 50 dairy cows, which they use during the period from three weeks before calving through two weeks after.
