Innovation Processes develops new, successful combinations of technology and human routines (hardware, software and orgware). The application of innovation to existing structures varies from easy to difficult, because structural changes at the level of the chain or sector are sometimes necessary. Entrepreneurs are central actors who implement innovations in our economy; innovation at this level is therefore strongly linked to entrepreneurship. In addition, leadership also plays an important role in complex changes that require coordinated actions from multiple actors.
According to system innovation theory, when creating innovations, the emphasis lies on managing processes to:
  • increase the probability that new perspectives will be established
  • create an environment to make innovation possible.
At Wageningen UR Livestock Research, making the livestock sector more sustainable is an important theme.
